Palace can now open up an unassailable 14-point gap to 18th-placed Luton Town with another win.

However, Oliver Glasner's men are winless in their last five Premier League meetings with Newcastle, who still have Europe to fight for.

Eddie Howe's side are unbeaten in their last four with three wins but only remain above Manchester United on goal difference.

Crystal Palace vs Newcastle: Flying with the Eagles

Michael Olise's return to the starting XI from his latest hamstring injury has coincided with a dramatic uptake in form.

Having made his comeback from the bench in the 4-2 defeat to Manchester City, Olise helped Palace overcome Liverpool at Anfield.

The Frenchman was then instrumental alongside Eberechi Eze and Jean-Philippe Mateta as they thrashed West Ham.

When the trio have all started a match in the Premier League this season, Crystal Palace have won four of those five games, with an average of 2.4 points-per-game.

That is a massive increase from when the trio have been missing, with both Olise and Eze suffering hamstring issues this season.

In the 28 games when those three haven’t all been in the XI, Palace have only won five times (D9 L14), averaging 0.9 points-per-game.

  • Alexander Isak has scored seven goals in his last six Premier League appearances for Newcastle, though six of those strikes have come in home games. His 17 goals overall this season is the joint-most by a Swedish player in a single Premier League campaign, level with Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2016-17.
  • Having won their first four Premier League away games against Crystal Palace between 1994 and 2013, Newcastle have won just one of their last eight away to the Eagles (D5 L2).
  • Having been unbeaten in Premier League games in London last season (W4 D3), Newcastle have lost three of their five in the capital so far this season (W1 D1). However, their sole victory was in their last such visit (1-0 at Fulham).

Crystal Palace vs Newcastle: Team news

The home side are sweating on the fitness of Adam Wharton following an enforced withdrawal on Sunday.

Palace's lengthy injury list has eased in recent weeks, but Sam Johnstone, Cheick Doucoure, Jefferson Lerma, Marc Guehi, and Matheus Franca all remain sidelined.

Newcastle are hoping to welcome back Kieran Trippier and Joe Willock to ease their own fitness crisis.

The visitors are still without Matt Targett, Nick Pope, Miguel Almiron, Callum Wilson, Joelinton, Lewis Miley, Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles.

Sandro Tonali is also a long-term absentee due to a betting ban.

Crystal Palace vs Newcastle: What has been said?

Eagles boss Oliver Glasner has explained how the Magpies already have the upper hand when the two teams meet this week.

"The players, how they started the game in the first 30 minutes, were really amazing,” Glasner said after their 5-2 win over the Hammers.

"It was nice to watch for a manager. It was an excellent performance, but now the game is played. The game is played, we have the three points, and it’s our first back-to-back wins of the season.

"Now it’s the third one in a row against Newcastle [we are aiming for], and this will be a big challenge.

"They will be fresh, so we have maybe the same situation as West Ham today [having played in midweek], a little bit tired legs.

"Of course, we take a lot of positive things from the game today, but stay focused for the next challenges."
