Manchester City vs Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. predictions

Manchester City might not be top of the Premier League heading into this weekend’s round of fixtures, but they are the bookies’ favourites to win the title.

A game in hand on Arsenal, who hold a one-point advantage as things stand, means City have their fate in their own hands.

If they emerge victorious from each of their upcoming matches against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, City will be champions again.

It would be no small feat. No club in the entire history of the English game has won four top-flight titles in a row. That is the latest record this extraordinary City side are chasing.

In truth, their run-in does not look too daunting. The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is one in which City have struggled in recent years, although they did win there in the FA Cup earlier this year.

Moreover, they could find themselves in an unusual position on May 14. Spurs supporters do not want Arsenal to win the league, so City are unlikely to receive too hostile a reception on that Tuesday night.

Pep Guardiola’s men have business to attend to before then, starting with Saturday’s clash with Wolves. With Arsenal in action in the early kick-off against Bournemouth, City could find themselves four points shy of the summit by the time this encounter gets under way.

City have been in this position on numerous occasions in the past and it is difficult to imagine  Given Guardiola’s intensity and Arsenal’s quality, complacency will not be an issue either.

Anything can happen in football, though and Wolves will draw confidence from the fact they beat City at Molineux earlier this season.

Much has changed since then and Gary O’Neill’s side will not benefit from home advantage on this occasion, but there is no such thing as a foregone conclusion in the Premier League.

Manchester City vs Wolves betting tips

Wolves beat Manchester City in the reverse fixture but it is hard to look past a home win in this one.

Manchester City -2 handicap - 3/4 (BetMGM)

Manchester City can no longer win a ‘double treble’ after being knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid last month.

But they are through to the FA Cup final and in pole position to win the Premier League title, so City are striving to become the first English team ever to win the domestic double two seasons on the bounce.

For all that Wolves are a good side on their day, it is difficult to envisage them throwing a spanner in the City works on Saturday.

O’Neill’s team have been hamstrung by injuries of late, with Pedro Neto, Santiago Bueno, Craig Dawson and Rayan Ait-Nouri among those set to miss out here.

Although they edged out Luton Town 2-1 last weekend, their form over the last few weeks has been poor.

Wolves have picked up just five points from the last 21 available. The only occasions on which they have avoided defeat in that time came when they were facing teams in the bottom four.

City should emerge triumphant without too much difficulty here. A win by a two-goal margin or more is a distinct possibility.

Phil Foden to score any time - 57/50 (BetMGM)

Phil Foden was a surprise absentee from the Manchester City XI that beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 last time out, but it soon emerged that the England international missed out through illness.

That came as a relief to City fans, who have had the pleasure of watching Foden at his absolute best in recent months.

A leading contender to win the PFA Player of the Year award, it is hard to see Foden being left out of the team for any of City’s four remaining matches - illness and injury aside.

Only six players in the Premier League have scored more goals than Foden this term.

The 23-year-old is becoming more and more decisive in the final third, while also offering City plenty elsewhere too. This is a fixture on which he can make his mark.

Go for Phil Foden as an anytime scorer at 57/50 with BetMGM

Joao Gomes to receive a yellow card - 2/1 (BetMGM)

Joao Gomes had his fair share of talkings-to by referees this season. The Wolves midfielder has been booked 10 times in the Premier League, while he was shown a red card in an FA Cup tie against Brentford in January.

Only Fulham’s Joao Palhinha and Sheffield United’s Vinicius Souza average more tackles per game than Gomes.

Meanwhile, of those with more than 10 Premier League appearances to their name, only Lorenz Assignon and Conor Gallagher have committed more fouls per match.

With Manchester City set to dominate possession, Gomes’ ball-winning skills will be needed. Do not be surprised if he crosses the line at some point, though.
