Ange Postecoglou admits he 'loves this part of the process' amid Tottenham's run of four consecutive defeats.

Spurs have fallen to four straight losses against Newcastle, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool in recent weeks to majorly dent their hopes of a top four finish.

The north London side were way off the pace in all four matches and have been a far cry from their table-topping form at the start of the season.

However, speaking to Optus Sport, Postecoglou revealed his belief of how important it is to embrace the 'pain' of their shortcomings.

Former Premier League goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer hinted at the danger of getting 'sucked into' the four defeats, but the Spurs boss said: "I think it's important that you don't dismiss it because I think feeling the pain of what we're going through now is important, that's how you get growth.

"There's no point saying, 'Oh boys we've had a great season, don't worry we've lost four games.' I think you're breeding the wrong sort of culture within the place. You've got to feel the loss, you've got to feel the pain of the loss and four losses isn't great in any situation so you need to feel the pain of that.

"But ultimately it's still about where we're heading and where we've come from and when you look at our starting point at the start of the year which people have kind of, not forgotten or dismissed.

"But because of our start to the season, we had such a great start, but that start wasn't our starting point, our starting point was a lot further back than that and we've made some decent progress.

"We're coming to the end of the season, we've still got three games which we have to finish strong and get some results, then come back first day of pre-season we'll be much further down the road."

Postecoglou was then asked if the job is more challenging for him now because of the slump and how he's got to be 'hyper-aware' of it.

But he defiantly said: "No, and I've said it before, this is the bit I love mate otherwise... I feel this is my purpose. If I'm not going to be enjoying or being at my best when the times are toughest, then why am I here?

"Because ultimately then you're just put into autopilot and let it go. That's my function, like I said you don't manufacture bad times, you don't try and create this scenario but when this scenario presents itself and it always will, it has through my whole career.

"Then that's when I need to be not at my best but certainly at my most alert and at my most visible, if I can put it that way. Because, you know me well, a lot of my coaching and my relationships are very kind of... I'm very empowering on the people around, give them responsibility, I'm not in their faces.

"But in these times I want to be more visible than anybody else in the club, this has got to be about me now so I've got to lead the way out. Like I said, it's not enjoyable when you're going through it but part of me loves this part of the process."

Spurs enjoyed an excellent start to life under Postecoglou as they won eight of their opening 11 Premier League games this season.

However, defeat to Chelsea kickstarted a winless run of five games to see them fall from the summit of the table and outside the top four.

Results in 2024 have been a mixed bag, with Spurs yet to win more than two consecutive league games and most recently falling to four defeats on the bounce.

Postecoglou's side have a game in hand over Aston Villa with three to play but the gap between them sits at seven points, so qualification for the Champions League may be a foregone conclusion.
