Chelsea are expected to reignite their interest in Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez as their search for a new number one intensifies.

As reported in this notebook, the Blues were keen on signing Argentina World Cup winner Martinez last summer, but were reluctant to pay big money.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino remains a big admirer of his fellow countryman, as is the club’s head goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts having come close to signing Martinez for Brighton.

Villa recorded losses of £119.6million last year, sparking fears they may have to sell players to stay on the right side of Premier League PSR rules.

Chelsea have made signing a new goalkeeper one of the main priorities and also have England pair Jordan Pickford and Aaron Ramsdale on their list of potential options.

FEEL THE BERN

Paris Saint-Germain are hoping it will be second time lucky in their pursuit of Manchester City wizard Bernardo Silva.

The Parisians believed they had landed Silva a year ago before he opted to sign a new three-year deal at the Etihad.

But after once again coming up short in their quest for Champions League glory, the French giants are planning a summer rebuild with the Portuguese once again at the forefront of their minds.

PSG will be encouraged by the fact City appear to have a ready-made replacement for fan favourite Silva lined up in the form of West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta.

It is believed Paqueta has an £85m release clause that becomes active this summer and Pep Guardiola was desperate to sign the Brazilian international before he was accused of breaching FA betting rules, for which charges have never been brought.

TOFF LUCK

Farhad Moshiri faces being forced to walk away from Everton with nothing as the ill-fated takeover by 777 Partners stands on the brink of collapse.

talkSPORT understands Everton staff have resigned themselves to the fact the deal is a non-starter having waited nine months for Premier League approval, and fellow American investment group MSP are now ready to launch a rival takeover bid.

Mark Goldbridge says he would sell Marcus Rashford as he reveals his Manchester United transfer wish list with three he'd bring in and three he'd take out this summer

The original agreement between Moshiri and 777 was worth around £550m and the Miami-based investment firm have since loaned Everton more than £200m to fund day-to-day running costs and player wages.

Moshiri is threatening to bow to fan pressure by pulling out for the deal and seeking an alternative buyer.

But having racked up debts of over £500m, including £160m to MSP, Monaco-based Moshiri is not in a strong position to ask for a bumper pay-off.

WALK THE LINE

Tottenham are considering re-signing Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters – four years after selling him.

Versatile Walker-Peters fits the profile of the type of attack-minded full-back Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou wants to recruit as cover for Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie.

Walker-Peters, 27, is out of contract at the end of next season and Saints will be forced to sell if they do not win promotion via the Championship play-offs.
