Leeds United fans react and comment after Spurs keeper ‘offer’

Earlier today, in his podcast (below) with colleague Joe Urquhart, Phil Hay said some thing that raised a few eyebrows amongst the Leeds United supporter base.

It is a supporter base that is one of the most active on social media outside of the ‘traditional big clubs’ both here and abroad. It is also a supporter base that has begun, to some degree, question whether the club will be making a foray into the transfer market.

It is, for these fans, a viable question to ask. After all, the Whites are top of the Championship pile and are gunning for promotion. As performances have dropped a little, as injuries have continued to bite, fans are expecting the January transfer window to be a shot in the arm.

Much has been said about who should come in and what positions should be covered better. Top of many people’s lists is a new keeper. Names such as Kieren Westwood and Tom Heaton were mentioned, but chief for many was the rumour surround Newcastle United back-up stopper Karl Darlow.

That rumour has been scotched now, and Hay discussed that Leeds had been ‘offered’ Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Michael Vorm, something written about here on The72 earlier today. There is little doubt that landing Vorm would have been an upgrade on grabbing Karl Darlow.

Vorm is a former 15-cap full Holland international and has made four appearances this season for Spurs (two in the Premier League, two in the Champions League). He was a £5m buy from Swansea in late July 2014, and is coming to the end of his current deal.

He’s a stopper who’d bring a wealth of experience to Elland Road, experience such as 137 Eredivisie games and 102 Premier League games. He’d also bring a reported circa £60,000-per-week pay packet. Anyway, the ‘offer’ was discussed by Hay, above, and can be listened to on the embedded podcast.

However, it hasn’t stopped Leeds United fans commenting on Twitter about the links. Here’s what some of them are saying.
