Wigan Athletic looking to seal deal for Premier League defender

Wigan Athletic are looking to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers on loan, according to TEAMtalk.

The 21-year-old is currently on loan at Championship side Swansea City but has only made 11 appearances. Therefore, Spurs may recall him and loan him somewhere he is guaranteed first-team football.

Carter-Vickers is a USA international and has represented his country at U18, U20 and U23 level in the past. He made his international senior debut in November 2017 in a friendly against Portugal.

He joined Spurs at the age of 11 and has since played four times for the London club. He made his debut in September 2016 in a League Cup tie against Gillingham.

The centre-back spent the first half of last season on loan at Sheffiedl United and he went onto play 18 times for the Blades and scored once, but was recalled by Spurs in January.

It was then announced that he would be loaned to Ipswich Town last January and that is where he ended the last campaign. Carter-Vickers made another move to the second tier in the summer to Swansea but now looks set for a fourth loan move.

Wigan are in the hunt for some defensive reinforcements to shore up their backline. Paul Cook’s side have tried to sign Nottingham Forest defender Danny Fox in this window and have taken Sweden international Alexander Milosevic, formerly of Besiktas and AIK, on trial.

Carter-Vickers has got experience of playing in the Championship and could prove to be a shrewd loan signing by the North-West side.
