Leverkusen are unbeaten in all competitions and have stormed to the Bundesliga title with games still to go.

Kane joined Bayern Munich in the summer too and harboured hopes of claiming his first ever career trophy.

That wait goes on as Bayern missed out on the title for the first time in 12 seasons.

Xhaka was asked if he had received any messages from his old club Arsenal after winning the title and he said: “There is still contact with Arsenal and the coaches and players. Of course, I got a lot of messages and I am proud to be part of this team.”

The midfielder was then asked specifically about messages from gleeful Arsenal fans about stopping Kane from winning his first trophy.

With a smile on his face as the question was asked, he replied: “It’s part of football. We know how much quality that Harry Kane has, he’s doing very well at Bayern Munich as well.

“You get the message, but this has nothing to do with personalities. It’s great to have the chance to play against great players.

“We were the happiest team to win the league.”

The 31-year-old was also asked about the Gunners’ chances of winning the Premier League title after their slip-up against Aston Villa at the weekend.

He said: “One week ago, Arsenal were favourites in the Premier League. Now it is the opposite, this is part of the game.

“They know that. I support them, I was there for seven years. It is always good and always special, they will always be in my heart.

“Let’s see what happens today, we wish them all the best.”

West Ham vs Bayer Leverkusen is live on talkSPORT 2 at 8pm on Thursday.
