Arsenal's Champions League journey came to an end on Wednesday as Joshua Kimmich's goal sent Bayern Munich to the semi-finals.

The aggregate score was level at 2-2 after their quarter-final first leg last week, with Bayern given the home advantage in the second leg.

Champions League glory is all that Thomas Tuchel's side have left to play for this season and they have now gone on step closer to victory.

Bayern sustained their pressure on Arsenal throughout the match, with the Gunners more than happy for it to be goalless at half-time.

But just after the hour mark, the north London side's efforts were undone as Kimmich headed in from Raphael Guerreiro's cross on the left.

The German international was given the time and freedom to dart into the area, get his shot on target and fire past David Raya.

Kimmich's goal sparked on attacking change from Mikel Arteta as he opted to bring Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Jesus into the fray.

But it didn't prove to be enough for Arsenal, who eventually fell to a 3-2 aggregate defeat to end any hope of a first Champions League crown.

Victory for Bayern boosts their chances of salvaging what has been a hugely disappointing season having already lost the Bundesliga title to Bayer Leverkusen.

Harry Kane in particular will be delighted to have claimed victory over Arsenal as the former Tottenham striker awaits his first major trophy.

The England captain cut a quiet figure on the pitch in the second leg but scored an important goal in the first, with he and Bayern now set for a semi-final clash against Real Madrid.

Defeat for Arsenal has come just three days after a 2-0 loss at home to Aston Villa dented their Premier League title hopes.

The Gunners returned to the Champions League for the first time in seven seasons and were a class above in the group stages.

However, the squad's lack of experience in the knockout rounds of the competition were on show at the Allianz Arena and they were ultimately made to pay.

Premier League glory is all that's left for Arsenal, so there is still a huge incentive for them in the final weeks of the season.
